June 20, 2009 - Veriam Launches Advanced Disk Wipe Utility

Industrial Strength Disk Erase Offered in a User-Friendly Package to Help Prevent Data Compromises

Austin, Texas (PRWeb) June 20, 2009Veriam, an IT Asset Management applications and consulting company, today announced general availability of its SurErase™ application designed to allow enterprise customers to more easily erase hard drives and other recordable media prior to disposing of computers or assigning computers to new users.

The new SurErase application is provided on a network appliance that allows computers to be remotely wiped simply by “booting” from the SurErase appliance. Customers can configure SurErase to perform a variety of different disk erase procedures, such as 3-pass, 7-pass, 10-pass, Secure Erase and many others, or a customized procedure can be easily implemented to accommodate specific requirements. In addition to the erase procedure, the SurErase application performs an automatic scan of the hardware and software configuration of each system and reports the configuration and erase data to a local server, from which the client can produce a variety of reports to assist with equipment disposal, resale, reallocation and warehouse management. Distributed enterprises can also create consolidated reports to analyze the inventory and performance of each location.

“We’ve developed SurErase in direct response to specific requirements of our customers who were being underserved by their current disk erase applications,” states Veriam CEO Jim Boyle. “Many of the disk wipe applications on the market today were originally developed as consumer utilities and are not sufficiently robust to satisfy large enterprise customers who erase thousands of computers each day. SurErase, on the other hand, was built from the ground up to handle the most demanding large-scale customers to maximize the gains in efficiency and effectiveness to their erase process.”

One early adopter of SurErase is Round 2 Inc, in Austin Texas, which purchases and resells computers from businesses throughout the United States. “Round 2 Inc. has made commitments to our customers that we will perform ultra-high-grade disk erases on their equipment to prevent the loss of both corporate and personal information when those systems are resold,” says Round 2 Inc. vice president Lynn Desselle. “It is critical for us to protect our customers while operating an extremely efficient business. SurErase has allowed us to greatly reduce the time and effort it takes to process inbound computers, while giving us better visibility to the configurations of those units.” Jim Boyle adds that “accurate and detailed configuration reporting has a significant impact on the profitability of these types of customers because they often are not able to identify components that increase the resale value for used computers. Some high-end graphics cards and sound cards, for instance, are sometimes more valuable than the computer itself. It also is helpful to know when computers have been upgraded with additional processors, increased memory, or larger hard drives.”

The SurErase network appliance and our unique customized solutions are available immediately from Veriam for both large and small businesses. Boyle also states that a consumer product is planned for release in Q4 ’09.
